Romance comp title database

untitled (500 x 282 px)

Comp titles, short for comparative or comparison titles, are one of the most important parts of your query letter because they show the overall tone of your work in just a few words.

There are hundreds of thousands of books out there, so I wouldn’t blame you for wondering how you find a comp title that has the enemies to lovers trope and aliens.

That’s where my romance comp title database steps in! You can filter over 2,000 well-known, recently published comp titles by trope, target audience, and romance subgenre with the click of a few buttons.

Here’s how to use the database and a few things to keep in mind:

  • Always start by adding your most important trope as some tropes, such as academia or baseball, have very few search results and won’t have matches with many other tropes.
  • Results will update instantly as you select from the different categories.
  • Hit “clear filters” to start from scratch.
  • Comp titles don’t need to be an exact match but remember it’s much better to have two strong, well-matched comp titles than two best-selling books that don’t match your novel’s tone.
  • Make sure you read the comp titles before you use them! This comp title database is meant to be a tool to help you identify potential comp titles books, but it’s your job to ensure the books are a good fit for your query letter.

All the best with your querying journey! Once you’ve found your comp titles, don’t forget to check out my developmental editing services or lists of publishers accepting manuscript submissions this month before you leave.
